Delaware Sales Tax Basics: Rate, Nexus, and Filing
Jump to a section
Full transcript
Overview
Delaware is different from many states because it has no statewide general sales tax, but businesses may still have state-level items to track.
State and local rates
The WGA page notes that Delaware has no statewide general sales tax. Instead of a general sales tax, the WGA page points to a gross receipts tax that works differently from collected sales tax.
Economic nexus
For remote sellers, the WGA page lists standard sales tax economic nexus as not applicable because Delaware does not have a statewide general sales tax. The easy mistake is assuming that no statewide sales tax means there is nothing to track. Delaware is a good example of why bookkeeping details still matter.
Filing frequency
The WGA page notes that the Delaware Division of Revenue administers the tax, and that gross receipts tax may be filed monthly or quarterly. Because gross receipts tax works differently from collected sales tax, the bookkeeping should keep Delaware revenue, filing dates, and related records easy to review.
